Personality and Mental Abilities

Personality and Mental Abilities

Training objective:

The aim of this training is to provide participants with an overview of modern personality concepts, in order to better understand people and their behaviour. Our characteristics – appearance, thinking, behaviour, feelings – all of this is the result of genetic and environmental influences. Individual characteristics can be highlighted on many different levels – related to appearance, thinking, behaviour, and so on. Generally, a person can be viewed as a combination of externally visible and internal, invisible components. The training will examine different personality concepts and the most common theories of mental abilities.

The training is aimed at all individuals interested in broadening their horizons in the field of personality concepts. It is certainly recommended for people involved in staff selection and recruitment. Participants will receive learning materials covering the main key issues.

Topics covered in the training:

  • The concept of personality and stages of personality development
  • Psychoanalytic personality theories – Sigmund Freud, C.G. Jung
  • Trait-based theories – G. Allport, R. Cattell
  • Humanistic personality and social learning theories – Abraham Maslow, Carl Rogers, Albert Bandura
  • What does the term 'intelligence' mean, different types of intelligence, and their necessity.
  • The importance of self-esteem in coping
  • Human behaviour and the regulation of behaviour
  • The moral development of personality

Training methods:

Despite the practical nature of the training, the methodology is based on scientific foundations, modern personality theories, and, among others, theories of emotional (D. Goleman) and mental intelligence (D. Zohar, R. A. Bowell), as well as the profile of a mature personality by the master A. Maslow. Learning is based on positive experience and the discovery of one's own strengths. The training takes place in an active learning format, meaning that theoretical knowledge alternates with practical exercises, which allows for better retention of knowledge in the participant's memory and for future application.

Training outcomes:

  • knowledge of the most important scientific concepts of personality traits and mental abilities
  • knowledge of the application possibilities of the given concepts in describing and analysing human behaviour
  • ability to better understand oneself and others

Recommended duration:

8 academic hours.
